History: She was launched on May 9, 1953 at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company of Manitowoc, WI. as hull #417 for the American Steamship Company.

Her maiden voyage was as the John J. Boland. Lower Lakes Towing Ltd. of Port Dover, Ontario purchased the John J. Boland on October 22, 1999 renaming her the Saginaw.
